Overnight Coastal Sailing - What to Expect

Weather conditions and the focus of the trip will dictate how we go about the days on board. If it is a hiking oriented trip we will try to get you as much time on land in different locations as possible and if it's a sailing oriented trip we will do the opposite. We will anchor somewhere different each night unless you, the crew decide you'd like more time in a specific location.

We encourage you to participate in the sailing of the boat, but if you would rather not, that's OK too. We will sail in almost any weather conditions within reason which is almost any weather short of a tropical storm or hurricane. We may have to alter our trip itinerary if weather conditions dictate. Resolution is extremely seaworthy and we will do our best to make the trip as comfortable as possible. There is plenty of space down below to shelter from the elements and curl up on the couch and read a book if you'd rather not be outside.

The boat is relatively large, but living quarters are still tight so keeping your things neat and organized is of utmost importance.  Most space on the boat is shared.

Meals will be provided while on board. If you'd like to make a sandwich lunch to bring with you for the day when exploring off the boat, that is always available.

We provide alcohol to be served with dinner while on anchor.  You may bring your own alcohol, but it must be limited. You are not to be visibly intoxicated at any time. You cannot drink if you plan to assist in the steering/driving of the boat. NO HARD COOLERS are allowed.

We sail not only because of the thrill of the wind moving the boat, but also because it allows for travel with less of a carbon footprint.  We are mindful about our consumption and our waste.  Sailing Resolution tries to be as environmentally conscious as possible.  We also carry all of our waste in a limited space on the boat. It is for these reasons that we try not to generate much waste and try to use reusable products whenever possible.

Water is limited to what our tanks can carry. Electricity is limited to what we make from the sun and from our hydrogenerator while sailing.  We can recharge batteries when we are forced to motor also.  Because we do not have a generator, the only fancy electronics we have are for navigating the boat.  We don't have the energy to run hairdryers, use copious amounts of hot water, or to regularly charge laptops and large electronics. There is no microwave or toaster on board.  With that said, it is still possible to charge cell phones and to take quick showers daily.

We look forward to providing you the opportunity to slow down and live simply for this sailing adventure.  Welcome aboard!

In-Shore Trips With NO Overnight Sailing:

  • The boat will be at anchor or on a mooring each night and there will not be an overnight watch schedule necessary, under normal circumstances. Everyone will get to sleep through the night!
  • Short showers (turning water off while lathering/shampooing/shaving) can be taken.  Depending on how many people are on board, they may not be available every day.
