Overnight Coastal Sailing - What to Bring
What to Bring - in short, less is more
- One soft/foldable duffle bag (no larger than 105 L) with all gear (only sleeping bag can be separate).
- small daypack, if you will be hiking (must fit inside duffle bag)
- Camping sleeping bag (NOT cotton) in a stuff sack or compression sack (no blankets or sheets)
- You may bring a pillow (compact camping pillow that fits in duffle, is best)
- Rain/foul weather gear (100% waterproof raincoat, rain pants, boots)
- Basic toiletries
- Changes of clothes and several warm layers; cotton is not preferred (it is always colder while moving on the water than being on land)
- Wallet, ID, medications
- Non-marking shoes with flat soles (hiking boots and hard soles are often marking and it’s hard to clean marks off the decks)
- Headlamp (w/spare batteries)
- Reusable water bottle (ex: Nalgene, Hydroflask, Yeti, Camelback type bladder, etc)
- Positive attitude and desire for adventure!
Optional
- Hiking boots (if there will be hiking)
- camera/phone/chargers
- Book/Kindle/something small to occupy your free time
- Your favorite snacks
- Alcohol (small quantities only)(you must not ever become visibly intoxicated, you may not drink if you are helping to drive/steer the boat)
- Sunglasses
- Hat
- Reef safe sunblock
- Mosquito net
- Favorite travel mug
- bathing suit/beach towel (if there will be stops with swimming options)
- Tablet/iPad
Please Do NOT Bring:
- HARD COOLERS
- A lot of electronics (electricity is limited)
- hairdryer
- drugs/cigarettes/vapes
- firearms
- pfd or tether (we will provide) (if you insist on bringing your own, it MUST be approved by us first)
- non-food items that are in disposable packaging (leave all packaging at home to not generate more trash while on board)
- food with excessive packaging (try to bundle snacks together to limit packaging waste)
If traveling by plane:
- Make sure to carry-on your essential items (wallet, ID, medications) in case your checked bag gets lost - it’s a good idea to simply wear your foul-weather jacket on the plane to save space!
