S/V Resolution - Boat Information

Resolution: is a Cape Dory 45. She is hull #1 of only three built and therefore not a common sight. She was designed by the famous naval architect Carl Alberg, as one of his last and greatest designs, and built by the famous Cape Dory Yachts in East Taunton, Massachusetts in 1983. Resolution is a cutter rigged ketch built for serious offshore passagemaking. She has a modified/cutaway full keel that is integral to the hull (no keel bolts) with 9,400 lbs of lead ballast encapsulated in the very bottom the keel in a special high impact bonding resin and fiberglassed over. This design/construction results in a very "stiff' boat with her ballast so far down in the keel. She holds 125 gallons of fuel deep in her keel as well which adds about 875 lbs more ballast when full and all water tanks (230 gallons) are down low below the water line as well. These features eliminate the more common build construction of bolting the keel on separately and they beef up her resistance to underwater impacts and potential keel bolt failures. She is foam cored with Airex foam in the hull and Divinycell core in the decks. Closed cell foam coring allows the boat to be lighter than solid fiberglass, considerably stronger and it adds 3/4 of an inch of insulation to the boat as well. She is 47 feet long by 13 feet wide and draws 7 feet.

All deck fittings are bronze, from the port-lights, cleats and cowl vents to the cockpit locker latches. There were no shortcuts made in her construction. She is one of the most capable vessels of her size on the planet and has the ability to take you anywhere you can dream of going and doing it comfortably and safely. She was recently re-powered with a Beta 62 hp turbo diesel engine and utilizes a 4 blade MaxProp feathering propellor. Under engine alone, she has a range of about 800 nautical miles. Resolution is truly a go anywhere vessel. She has just been updated with a suite of Garmin navigation equipment consisting of multiple chartplotters, radar and AIS transceiver. She also has a Hydrovane self-steering vane which in addition to being one of our autopilots it acts a complete independent back up steering system should the primary steering fail, a Watt and Sea hydrogenerator, 400 watts of solar, a Viking 8 person offshore life raft, all life jackets equipped with AIS MOB 1 Beacons, Iridium Go Exec sat phone and ability for offshore weather forecasting and routing via Predict Wind and of course an EPIRB. Resolution is a US Coast Guard documented vessel. We carry two anchors always and shorelines for trips where they are needed.
