S/V Resolution - Boat Information

Resolution: is a Cape Dory 45. She is hull #1 of only three built and therefore not a common sight. She was designed by the famous naval architect Carl Alberg, as one of his last and greatest designs, and built by the famous Cape Dory Yachts in East Taunton, Massachusetts in 1982. Resolution is a cutter rigged ketch. She has a modified/cutaway full keel that is integral to the hull (no keel bolts) with 9,400 lbs of lead ballast  encapsulated in a special bonding resin and fiberglassed over. These features eliminate the more common build construction of bolting the keel on separately and beef up her resistance to underwater impacts and potential keel bolt failures. She is foam cored with Airex foam in the hull and Divinycell core in the decks. Foam coring allows the boat to be lighter than solid fiberglass and much stronger as well. She is 47 feet long by 13 feet wide and draws just shy of 7 feet.

All deck fittings are bronze, from the port-lights, cleats and cowl vents to the cockpit locker latches. There were no shortcuts made in her construction. She is one of the most capable vessels of her size on the planet and has the ability to take you anywhere you can dream of going and doing it comfortably and safely. She was recently re-powered with a Beta 62 hp turbo diesel engine and utilizes a 4 blade MaxProp feathering propellor. Under engine alone, she has a range of about 750 nautical miles. Resolution is truly a go anywhere vessel. She has just been updated with a suite of Garmin navigation equipment consisting of multiple chartplotters, radar and AIS transceiver, a Hydrovane self-steering vane, a Watt and Sea hydrogenerator, 400 watts of solar, a Viking 8 person offshore life raft, Iridium Go Exec sat phone and ability for offshore weather forecasting and routing via Predict Wind and of course an EPIRB. Resolution is a US Coast Guard documented vessel.
